Bosses give me the butterflies

Bosses give me the butterflies

Don't expect this to become a sort of new series on Gamersyde, the kind you'd entitle "Here's how a below average player can beat a boss in Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice", but we have another boss fight video to share in glorious 4K. It might not be the most impressive display of skills, but we killed the b**** anyway so yippee ki-yay!

Idk if I agree with below average. No usage of candy is pretty impressive.

Yes!!! I just posted a message a few seconds ago before you posted this.

Once you get the hang of it, it's not that hard. And you're no average player. You have gotten this far and like asdfg said, without using any candy.

I absolutely expect you to make videos of your progress, if not for bosses, at least for certain locations. Serious question:

Would you be willing to stream the game like Gamersyde live?

I really don't care if it's in French or English.

looking forward to seeing you fight with Genichiro. that guy gave me hell

Weirdly enough, Genichiro was easy for me, I saw all his move set in the first try and was able to defeat him without much trouble. He telegraphs his actions a lot. So I just jumped or dodged and observed his moves, after a while I knew exactly where the openings were and what to do.

Surprisingly, the enemies that have given me the most grief are the mini-bosses, there's one in the Fort, which was so relentless that you barely had 1 second to attack, heal or anything. Almost felt like the game put him on Turbo mode. To make matters worse, it's in a very confined place, so you couldn't get away from him enough to heal.

Then there's those eyes something enemies in a toxic place, I died so many times there that it triggered that scene about the world - being vague to avoid spoilers. Same with that damn ogre.

Those 3 were the ones that most gave me trouble so far, I feel like the bosses telegraph their moves much more clearly than the mini-bosses, which are also fast as hell and some are almost downright cheating type of unfair.

Best thing is to get the timing of deflecting attacks correctly, once you do, the rest is just being calm under pressure. That bastard at the Fort is like that, you just have to keep deflecting like a madman and getting 1 hit every so often, it's a painful slog, but you defeat him eventually.

are you talking about the long arm wolverine claw thing? for me he was one of the easy ones cuz all I had to do was deflect (and jump a couple of times) until he was open for the death blow. now I'm having a bit of trouble with the guardian ape. he has very short openings for attack and I'm out of supplies. I guess I have to go back and farm some spirit emblems first.

Maybe, but there are 2 very similar mini-bosses of the one I'm talking about. The one at the Monk Temple with the other fire throwing enemies nearby was easy, the one at the Fort with a broken floor in the room and a door behind a statue that you can open with a key is the one I had a lot of trouble with.

Guardian Ape wasn't very hard, though that thing the first time I fought him caught me by surprise. Also, are you using the Demon Bell?

I'm using it and have many supplies, though I hoard them for cases like the wolverine claw at the Fort and bosses. Best strategy is to not use any items the first few times.

Not even attacking them, just keep defending, deflecting, jumping and dodging, see what works, what doesn't and then try attacking it and see how far you can damage it before you die. After a few tries, then you use the items.

And only the ones you know will help, like if the enemy's attacks deal a lot of damage, use items to take less damage, if your attacks are dealing too little damage, strengthen your attacks, but there's no need to use items that won't help with that particular enemy.

There's also YouTube videos and guides with tips if you don't mind going that route. I'm doing my first run mostly blind, but after I'm done, I will look at other people's strategies for NG+, see if I missed anything, etc.

toelessfoot Right. I think programmable shaders were adopted fairly early on consoles (xbox360/ps3) (21 Hours ago)
  • MrWhite
MrWhite @toelessfoot: Well, only recently they have been. I think this is the first gen I've seen where PC's are playing catch up. Not through hardware power, but through development cycles (21 Hours ago)
  • toelessfoot
toelessfoot Yeah I think innovations on the console side are taken up more quickly by PC than vice versa because consoles are really lead platform for everything (1 Day ago)
  • MrWhite
MrWhite At least for most gamers. Similar to when everything went to pci-e (1 Day ago)
  • MrWhite
MrWhite I think we could be seeing a dramatic shift in PC hardware where it'll be essential to own both an SSD and a next gen card with the api's to use them. That also would probably require new motherboards (1 Day ago)

MrWhite If a game is built from the ground up to take advantage of that, though... (1 Day ago)
